Ethiopia will launch social media platforms to replace Twitter, Facebook, WhatsApp and Zoom
Director of the Information Network Security Agency (INSA) said Ethiopia will launch social media platforms to replace Twitter and Facebook.
Shumete Gizaw (PhD) also said virtual communication platforms such as WhatsApp and Zoom will be replaced by Ethiopia based new platforms which are currently under trial.
Communication platforms to replace WhatsApp and Zoom developed in Ethiopia have been tested and put into operation.
The director recalled how Facebook announced closing of Facebook pages in connection to the INSA “Regardless of the pages’ ownership, the shutdown of the page is unjust since they all had the right to ownership.”
He recalled that Facebook had previously shut down various pages, ‘working with Insa’ and ‘supporting the government’. “It is not fair and fair for the pages to be closed as long as they have accurate information, no matter who they are,” he said.
