Archbishop Abune Petros

Representative of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church in North America, Abba Petros, said the ongoing humanitarian assistance provided by the Tigray State Government and international charities is encouraging.

Archbishop Abune Petros of the Diocese of New York and the surrounding area told ENA that during his stay in Mekelle, the people welcomed the religious leaders.

“The diocese office in New York and the surrounding area is collecting donations from parishioners to strengthen the ongoing humanitarian assistance in Tigray,” he said.

“I have great respect for the people of Tigray,” Abune Petros said, adding, “It is a great people and we must reach it quickly and early.”

“The people of Tigray need not only economic support but also psychological support,” he said.

He said the people of Tigray should realize that he is the owner of peace and should focus on peace in the region.

“I wish the people peace and help our country and our people,” he said.

During his stay in Tigray, he noted that the town of Mekelle is stable and peaceful, adding that he has witnessed the people carrying out their daily religious and social activities.

Abune Petros said they have visited Tigray areas affected by the humanitarian crisis, including Metekel, and are aware that the area is returning to normalcy.

We urge politicians not to impose anything on the people of Tigray; He conveyed a religious message that we will always remember the people in our prayers.
